Jeff was sitting on the couch with his beloved black lab, like he had done countless times before. But this time, Tillman started to act strangely rather than settling in. He began obsessively sniffing Jeff’s face, refusing to leave him alone. Tillman continued to pester Jeff, smelling his face every chance he got. 

Jeff had no idea why Tillman kept doing this. 

A few weeks later during a doctor's diagnosis, Jeff found his answer. Thankfully, it was caught in the early stages, but the outcome may have been different without Tillman’s keen sense of smell and unwavering persistence.

For Jeff, this incredible act of loyalty only deepened their relationship. Tillman had always been by Jeff’s side—from mornings spent sipping coffee together to daily drives and long hunting trips. In Jeff’s words, he was his best friend, and that bond only grew stronger after Tillman helped save his life.

Sometimes, life isn’t fair, and their special connection was cut short.

As Tillman aged he began experiencing digestive issues. Soon after, he was diagnosed with kidney failure. Experts believes that Tillman's diet of low-quality kibble may have contributed to his illness and ultimate early passing.

And while his beloved black lab saved him, Jeff could not do the same. Due to its aggressive nature, the disease quickly progressed. Tillman passed away with Jeff by his side.
